Class Blog Post (May 18th, Wednesday) - Block 4

With only three more days of work left (not including this one, the 18th), the pressure is on. So really, there's no time to waste. And thus, this day was mainly a work day. Of course, we did do some idea and project sharing with other people, but we mostly worked on our own various projects.

And how so varied they are.

Matteo's ambitious and amazingly assembled clock - coming along nicely. Wonder how he's keeping track of his time.  *distant badumtss*
Hanna's pillbox (no, not the type of hat)/pill holder/pill organizer. Definitely looking good!

Someone's Illustrator project up on the laser cutter computer. Just waiting to be printed. It was extremely tempting to press "print" but luckily I am not as tempted by the big shiny button.

  • We are well into the design stage - with a draft digital design and/or detailed sketches due on Monday 5/16.

  • Where are you in your design process?

  • What materials do you think you will need? Be specific!
  • (ie: 2 sheets of 3mm plywood, red PLA 3d printing filament for something 10cmx4cmx13cm, strip of LED lighting that fits in a 1cm groove, etc)
  •
  • What is your biggest challenge right now? How do you plan to overcome it?
  •
  • The expectation is that you will be ready to cut / print the week of 5/26-20. Will you be ready for that? If you don't think so, what can you do to make it happen?
  • (We only have 5 more classes to work on the project - 5/16, 18, 20, 24, 26 - with presentations of the final project on 5/30 and 6/1. If you will need time after school to work on your project, you need to plan with me ahead of time to schedule that time, as you need supervision in the CAD center. )

Tuesday May 17th Class 2

Today, we started off the class by explaining our projects with visuals to a partner. Then we continued to work on our projects individually. Some people started printing prototypes, but most of the class is still in the process of designing their prototypes.

Thursday May 12 Class 6

For today's class, we each worked on our individual projects. Most people were mainly working on making prototypes or getting peer review; however, some people who had difficulties with their project were forced to re-design their projects, slowing down their process.

Thursday May 12 Class 4

Our class was very productive all around, the projects vary greatly with my peers. I have been working on sketchup along with Everrett most people are using either 123design or Sketchup.

5/6 Lourenco D6

Today we went over what we should do to have a successful final project. Mrs Sutter says to stay open to new ideas in case our doesn't work. Then, we need to take that need and phrase it as a POV.  Even if you have an idea, you should go back and write the original need this is to avoid having an image in mind to early.

Wednesday May 4th Class Blog DF6

During class a lot of people were trying to figure out what they wanted to do for their final design project and instead of jumping straight to what they wanted to do we brainstormed an entire list of problems rather than the actual design we wanted to make.

For those of us that created a design we created a full on plan.

Not only did we create plans, but we also created a document on our google drive that has our thinking and research process. On our document we created a full cycle and figured out a way to get to our problem solving.

5/10 Tuesday D2

Today we all worked on our project. Some of us had to finish off the needs document while others were able to get immediately into working on their project. Some people were measuring the dimensions of certain things for their project, while others were drawing thumbnails for their project. Everyone made good progress on their projects. Everyone was also able to resolve some problems related to their projects.

  • Friday we went in and re-examined our project ideas with a re-emphasis on the need finding, the problem or gap we will be solving/filling with this project, and widening our approach to really exploring the issue we think we are seeing. The key here is building empathy and seeking alternatives (widening your focus) before brainstorming solutions and narrowing down to the ideas you will prototype.

  • What was your need statement? (Remember, it should be at the top of your Final Project Documentation in your Google Drive)

  • Who will you be interviewing for this need?
  •
  • How did your ideas change with the new approach?

    • Please have your blog post done by Monday 5/9 at 8:00am (all classes), although earlier is always welcome.  Email me if you have any questions or issues.

5/6 Friday D4

Today we went over the new criteria for the final project. We need to look for a need in our life, and tried to stay open in finding a solution. Then, we need to take that need and phrase it as a POV.  Even if you have an idea, you should go back and write the original need. We made sure with Ms. Sutter if our project is viable. Also, make sure you write up your weekly class blog!

Wednesday May 4 D2

This class we started to work on our final projects and think more about how we were going to make our project. Some people even got to making a prototype.

5/4 Wednesday D4

This class we looked for ideas for our final projects, and started drawing sketches.  Some people even started designing their projects.

Class Blog D4 April 25-29

This week we continued to work on finishing our 3d projects, however lots of people still haven't finished. The files that were finished we uploaded onto google drive so they can be printed later. We also started thinking about our final projects and each of us were supposed to come up with 3 ideas in a google doc.

Class Blog DF4, Friday the 29th

Friday the 29th DF4 Class blog:
This week in class we worked on completing our 3D printing project, some people projects have already been pretend but most people are still printing. On class on Friday we discussed what everyone might want to do for their project. Everybody was suppose to come up with  three possible things that they could do for their final project using all the things we have learned in the past semester. After we discussed some people began to sketch out what they wanted to do for their project while other finished their 3D printing project.
