Feb 13-15 Short Week

This week we had two classes and focused on annotating the rendered images of your designs.  The expectation is that the designs are annotated by class on Wednesday 2/22.  You also need ONE exploded view of your favorite design to explore and explain just how you will construct it out of various materials.
Next week we'll also start to learn how to use the scroll saw and the drill press in small groups, and begin to use Adobe Illustrator to create files for the laser cutter.  Here's the video of the scroll saw in action!

Fusion 360, Rendering, Images of finished designs

Week 5 - two classes
This week we had two classes to work on finishing up our 4 Fusion 360 designs. Some students are still a bit behind and are tasked with catching up over the weekend.  The goal is 4 distinctly different designs that will function to amplify sound.  After completing the designs, students need to have two versions of rendering - one with the clear material so we can see how things join up, and one in the materials they think they will use to create the amplifiers. Next we'll tackle exploding the designs so we can see how it might get constructed, and part of that will be exploring how to use the tools in class to cut, drill, join and glue wood and other materials to make that happen.

Fusion 360 designs and Acrylic Bending

Week 4 classwork

This week we had three classes, most of which was spent working in Fusion 360, as well as one day learning about how acrylic can be bent and formed with heat.  Progress is slow but gaining, and now there are a few screencasts up in Blackboard for students to access to make forms like lofted cones or lofting from one shape to another.
Students were able to bend and form acrylic, and even saw first hand what happens when acrylic is left too long in the heat source, resulting in some bubbled / warped materials. Better to learn it early than with your actual project! :)
