10/29/15 Design and Fabrication

This class we continued working on all of the stuff from last class, working on our project.

Throughout the class we first made sure we finished the first part of the evaluation with our comments. Those of us who had done so then picked a project that we would work on, and completed the second part of the evaluation based on this. For the people that completed all of the above worked and created a materials list, and filled out all the information on the GANTT chart.

Homework: Complete blog and steps not finished in class.

10/28 3D Design

Today in 3D design, students were placed in a group of 4 to 5, to discuss about each others 30 needs and if they didn't have 30 needs, the students on the table helped each other to get 30 needs. Also, we are still printing the rest of the 3D printed objects.

We were introduced to the key and the latent needs that will be added on to our 30 needs, which is our homework that will be due next class.

10/26/15 3d Design

Today in class we paired into groups to work compare our work to the other members of our groups. We added on to our lists by adding more detail onto it after thinking bout what we would need to do our what we would use the item for. We then reviewed our expectations for the 30 more user needs that we need to write for the next class. We then narrowed it down to what item we want to do and what item would be practical to make. Below are some examples of what we did.

10/27 Design and Fabrication

Today in class, we worked on summarizing our ideas on our individual project. We wrote down some ideas and wrote down what we needed in order to do this project. We also drew what our project was going to be like as well.

We worked on this for the whole class and everyone seemed to enjoy it. A lot of the people already had there ideas of what their project is going to be, some people still haven't decided, and some people added ideas and changed some parts of their project as they wrote down some ideas.

Homework: Start putting specific, achievable goals in the Gantt chart, catch up on any late blog posts, be sure your comments are in the assessment rubric.

10/26 3D Design

In 3D design today, some people finished printing their 3D objects and the rest of the class did a different project. This project was to come up with 10 different objects that you might interested in and then pick the object that you might want to create. Then we came up with the four how's and why's to further increase our thinking on this object.

10/27 DF2 Project research and Gantt Charts

Today in class we worked on our design projects. First we finished up our research and then we started filling out our gantt charts. For the gantt charts we planned out what we were going to do over the course of the project. We also took a piece of paper and started the overall design of the project materials, what you are doing, what it will look like etc. We then handed those papers in so we are ready to start next class.

Today we took a quiz on orthographic projections to see where we are. Everyone had a different shape and it was actually pretty difficult. Below is a photo of my quiz on top, and underneath is Izzys.

10/22 3D Design

Today in 3D design students spent the majority of the class period coming up with 10 needs that they have that could be fixed by a design project utilizing the 3d printer or laser cutter and within the materials that we have available to us. The purpose of this is to eventually narrow down those 10 design needs to a final project.

We introduced 5 WHYs and how we might troubleshoot our problem as the next step in the design process. In addition Cuber files were revised as necessary for printing. At this point in time every student should have at least one 3D printed project completed.

10/21/15 - Design and Fabrication 2

We started the class by going over our class shape and settling on a final design. Then Ms. Sutter told us about the options for our final individual projects, and gave us some examples of what we could create. We spent the rest of the class planning, designing, and researching about our ideas for the project.

10/21/15 DF4

In today's class we had a guest from Waseda high school. Ms.Sutter taught them how to use the laser cutter.

For this class we started researching about ideas for our final project. We watched videos about ideas in class, some of the ideas were really cool like the sensor lights with the balloons and the chocolate moulding.

10/16 3D Design

Today, we continued to perfect our design files in Fusion 360. These files will later be opened in another program, Cubify, which will allow us to 3D-print the designs we created in the Fusion 360 program. Most of us are nearly complete with our design files, and some have moved on to printing their designs. Everyone also finished taking pictures of their lanterns in the dark.

10/9/15- Design and Fabrication 4

For this class we divided into groups to combine ideas to create another design. We took the best features for each design people came up with to create an even better design. This task was a challenge because it took a group effort to complete and lot's of thinking involved. For my group we started off drawing a rough draft on a piece of paper and scribbled the best feature from each design to create a very unique one. Each of us then transferred the image onto our computers through AutoCad. It was interesting to see the different designs on our AutoCads even if we started with the same one. We put our own spin to it to look different. This class was successful and overall very enjoyable. Below are some examples of designs.

10/8 3D Design

Today we continued to work on Fusion 360. In the photo on the top, you can see Andrew Small's 3d artwork. Others also finished cutting out their lanterns and a couple people even started to print their 3d artwork.

10/9/15 - Design and Fabrication 2

Today in class, people from all different groups worked together to create new shapes after making their original one by themselves. Everyone was required to make new shape that was a combination of their group's shape with newly designed slots. In all, today's class was successful and everyone worked well with each other.

10/7 - Design and Fabrication 2

This class, some people were still finishing up their shapes and printing them out. The rest of the class was splint into small groups and were asked to give feedback to each other about their shapes and fill out a sheet. Overall, the whole class was based on giving feedback and collaborating as a group.

10/5 Design and Fabrication 4

This class we continued to create our shape designs on AutoCad and print them on the lazer cutter. We all made different and unique shapes. This class was a mix of printing and creating the shape. Once we finished making the shape on AutoCad, we went and got help printing it on the lazer cutter, which was really cool when it was in the process of cutting out the shape.

10/6 3D Design

Today we continued to work on Fusion 360 to make our own 3-d designed artwork. Everyone has made a unique item and one group even made something very very cool. There were a few people left who didn't cut out their lanterns so they had to do that on the lazer cutter. In the first picture that is a piece of 3d designed art and the second picture is of a lazer cutter, cutting out a lantern.

10/5 Design and fab 4

This class we continued working and cutting out our shapes on the lazer cutter. We faced many challenges such as not saving properly or not being able to get it on the flash drive. Personally I struggled with controlling the lazer cutter. The software was very difficult for me to understand and personally I am bad at technology so I left the computer stuff to Takuto but I was in charge of selecting the cardboard.

10/2 3-D Design

Today we started to work on Fusion 360 to make our own 3-d designed artwork. Everyone has started to design completely different things as they can make anything they want to. For example, the person who made the design in the first screenshot has decided to make a coffee cup.

Homework: Blog post

How is your exploration of Fusion360 going?
